This saree was entirely made from scratch. The fabric was handwoven by skilled artisans using traditional looms in Bengal.
What makes it special? The “Debi” motif—carved by hand on wood blocks by our beloved Zakir da, then meticulously block-printed by Raju da bringing the goddess to life in every drape.
This saree bears not just the name “Debi” in Bengali script, but also the spirit of the divine feminine. It evokes the silent strength and sacred rebellion of Doyamoyee, the protagonist of Ray’s film, who becomes a reluctant goddess in the eyes of a patriarchal society. Be it Durga puja saree or Kali puja saree or for any festive occasion, its a perfect fit for all. The white saree with red amrapali border is a tradition for every Bengali to drape.
